Newlywed Bliss

Lily Lake is nestled in the beautiful wilderness somewhere nearish Kamas, UT. Pretty exact location right? All I really know is that it was breathtaking, not to mention a memory-making adventure.

It was all planned out, the lake, a canoe, beautiful weather, one set of newlyweds and close to twenty photographers. And then the weather turned and it was a doom-and-gloom black-as-night storm cloud covered sky, windy, and threatening rain. A little rain never hurt anyone, right?

We get to the location we are picking up our canoe at only to remember that the car we wanted to transport it on still had the roof rack on top...oops. Plan B, we are caravaning it, just put it on top of another car. We start driving, and between the wind and the canoe and the wind/canoe combination playing with the drag of the car, it took us what seemed like FOREVER to get to the lake, but we made it!

As we are pulling into the parking lot, what do we see but a family of moose! Naturally, we all get out of the car and head off to take pictures of them...Bride and Groom who? just kidding...

I have what some might call an irrational aversion to moose...They are huge and mean and territorial and when  it is dark and you are trying to get the gate into our cabin unlocked and you know there could be a moose out there lurking nearby that could attack at any moment, you bet I don't want to back in the car ASAP without a moose sighting. (holy run-on sentence Batman) However, they really are beautiful creatures, when it is daylight, and there is a large body of water between them and me. =]

Anyways, back to the bride and groom. They were such troopers! They took suggestions and commands from about twenty photographers all at once. It was cold and a bit breezy, especially on the lake, but they rocked it out. We were out there for just shy of two hours, and once we called it a wrap, loaded our gear and were putting the canoe on the car it began to rain. We hit the road just as it started to pour. I'm talking swimming pool amounts of water falling from the sky all at once. The water, with a bit of sun setting in the distance coupled with the lighting all across the horizon - it was beautiful.

Rock A Bye Baby

I had the opportunity last summer to attend two photography workshops put on by my now friends Wendy and Tyler at Bluelily. These workshops were amazing and have helped to shape me as an artist. I not only gained some amazingly valuable knowledge, but I made new, lasting friends and it was awesome. I will recount some of our adventures as I post images from the reunions. If you ever have a chance to attend a workshop with Wendy and Tyler, DO IT! You won't regret it. Promise.

I had the opportunity to photograph this sweet angel twice in my workshops. He was such a good sleeper. I love photographing newborns, and it was life-changing to watch Wendy at work. You could call her the baby whisperer for the way she got Baby D to calm down whenever fussy and pretty much do whatever she wanted. Genius. My style for photographing newborns will never be the same.

Touring Utah: Tracy Aviary

My friend Jill has begun planning adventures. Awesome adventures. This months adventure was Tracy Aviary. Most of us had not been there for years...maybe elementary school, if even at all. I think we all were pleasantly surprised at everything there was to do, see, and the range of the birds. You get pretty close to the birds, some of them you can help feed (for a fee), and learn a lot from talking to the trainers and staff. So cool. If you haven't been there recently, I recommend it!

So excited for our next adventure!!
